On October 29, the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar police successfully dismantled a prostitution racket in Thane, rescuing two women and arresting a female agent involved in the operation. Senior Inspector Mukund Yadav from the Navghar police station confirmed that the accused was allegedly supplying women to clients at various lodging establishments across Mumbai, Thane, Mira Bhayandar, Lonavala, and Goa.
The police action was initiated after receiving a tip-off regarding the arrival of the female agent near a hotel in Bhayandar East, located on the outskirts of Mumbai. On Wednesday, a decoy customer was deployed along with independent witnesses to facilitate a raid on the location. The operation led to the arrest of the agent, who was reportedly involved in the trafficking of women for sexual exploitation.
The rescued individuals, aged 41 and 32, had previously participated in Bengali television serials, talk shows, modeling assignments, and photo shoots, indicating a background in the entertainment industry. The police are currently searching for a second female agent who is believed to be absconding, and efforts are ongoing to identify other individuals who may be part of the trafficking network.
Navghar police have filed a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. The authorities are making arrangements to transfer the rescued women to a shelter home, ensuring their safety and well-being as investigations continue.
Looking ahead, police efforts will focus on tracking down the remaining suspects and dismantling the broader network involved in this illicit activity. The operation underscores the ongoing challenges of human trafficking and the commitment of law enforcement to combat such crimes in the region.
