In a significant operation against illegal liquor trade, police in Beed district, Maharashtra, arrested a 48-year-old man from Telangana on Friday night. The accused, identified as Mahipal Narayana Komidi, was intercepted while transporting contraband Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) on a motorcycle.
The arrest followed a tip-off received by the Shivajinagar police station regarding the distribution of illicit liquor in the area. Upon receiving the information, the police promptly set up a surveillance operation, leading to the successful interception of Komidi and the seizure of the illegal goods.
During the operation, authorities confiscated IMFL along with a motorcycle, with a total estimated value of Rs 1.11 lakh. The police confirmed that Komidi has been booked under the relevant sections of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949, which regulates the sale and consumption of alcohol in the state.
This crackdown is part of a broader initiative by law enforcement agencies in Maharashtra to combat the illegal liquor trade, which poses significant public health risks and undermines legal businesses. The police have been actively targeting bootleggers and illegal distributors to ensure compliance with state laws.
Looking ahead, authorities are expected to continue their vigilance against illegal liquor operations, with more raids planned in the coming weeks. The police encourage the public to report any suspicious activities related to liquor distribution to assist in their ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the region.
