Resonia Acquires 210 Km Transmission Project in Maharashtra
Resonia Ltd. has secured a 100% stake in Balsane Power Transmission Limited, enhancing Maharashtra's power infrastructure.
Resonia's acquisition includes a 210 km intra-state transmission project.
The project will provide 3 GW of power evacuation capacity.
A new substation will be established at Balsane to strengthen the state's transmission network.
On September 28, 2026, Resonia Ltd. finalized the acquisition of a complete stake in Balsane Power Transmission Limited (BPTL), marking a significant step in enhancing Maharashtra's power transmission capabilities. This intra-state project spans approximately 210 kilometers across the Dhule and Nashik districts and is designed to facilitate a power evacuation capacity of 3 gigawatts (GW). The initiative aims to bolster the state's power transfer efficiency and integrate additional generation resources into the existing transmission framework.
The Maharashtra State Transmission Utility (STU) awarded this project, with REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL) overseeing the bidding process. Central to the project is the construction of a 765/400/220 kV Air Insulated Substation (AIS) at Balsane, which will feature advanced infrastructure including two 1,500 MVA transformers and four 500 MVA transformers. This substation will serve as a pivotal connection point, linking various key nodes throughout Maharashtra via a network of high-voltage transmission lines.
Prashant Sinha, CEO of Resonia, highlighted the necessity for a robust transmission network in light of Maharashtra's increasing energy demands and the growth of renewable energy sources. He stated, "The Balsane project not only adds significant evacuation capacity but also enhances the transmission backbone between Dhule and Malegaon. The establishment of a 765 kV network will improve the interconnection of the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) and the Intra-State Transmission System (InSTS), thereby increasing overall power transmission capacity."
This project is a crucial milestone for Resonia as it represents their first intra-state transmission initiative in Maharashtra, following a successful track record in inter-state projects across India. The company aims to deliver essential grid infrastructure that emphasizes scalability, reliability, and technology-driven execution.
As Resonia continues to expand its operations, the Balsane project is expected to play a vital role in developing a more resilient and adaptable power grid in Maharashtra, ultimately supporting the state's energy transition and sustainability goals.
