ReNew Wind Energy Pvt Ltd has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government to develop a ₹70,000 crore integrated green data centre park in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). This ambitious project, which is expected to begin operations in 2028, will have a total capacity of 750 megawatts (MW) and will be located in areas including Panvel, Khalapur, Taloja, and Bhokharpada.

The MoU was signed by P Anbalagan, the Principal Secretary of the Industries, Investment & Services Department, along with ReNew's state head. The agreement outlines the state's commitment to assist in obtaining necessary permissions, registrations, and clearances, as well as providing fiscal incentives in line with existing policies.

A significant aspect of the data centre park is its emphasis on sustainability, with a requirement to source at least 51% of its energy from green power. ReNew has stated that the facility will feature dedicated power infrastructure, including two incoming feeders from independent sources to ensure reliability and efficiency in operations.

This investment marks a crucial step in ReNew's expansion into the data centre sector, which is increasingly vital as the demand for digital infrastructure grows. The initiative is also in line with Maharashtra's goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2030, focusing on high-growth sectors such as data centres, semiconductors, and clean energy.

Currently, ReNew operates a power portfolio of 2.5 gigawatts (GW) in Maharashtra, which includes both commissioned and under-construction wind and solar projects. The company has invested approximately ₹15,000 crore in the state to date, reinforcing its commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development.
