Raj Babbar, a prominent actor and Congress leader, has publicly criticized the Maharashtra government in light of a recent shooting incident involving actor Tiger Shroff. Babbar expressed grave concerns regarding the deteriorating law-and-order situation in the state, questioning the effectiveness of the current security measures in place.
In his remarks, Babbar drew parallels between the current climate in Maharashtra and the tumultuous period from 1980 to 1990, suggesting that the state is experiencing a troubling resurgence of that era's atmosphere. He stated, "Law and order has completely collapsed. The atmosphere that prevailed in Maharashtra between 1980-1990 is returning once again. At least during the Congress government, that atmosphere had been eradicated. But if such an atmosphere is happening again today, it’s regrettable."
Babbar expressed relief that Tiger Shroff was unharmed in the incident, referencing his friendship with Shroff's father, Jackie Shroff. He emphasized that the recent threats to celebrities, including filmmaker Rohit Shetty and actor Salman Khan, indicate that merely providing individual security is inadequate. He insisted on the need for enhanced security measures throughout Maharashtra, stating, "First it happened with Rohit Shetty, then with Salman Khan, so it’s not enough to just say we’re providing you security—instead of giving security to individuals, the entire city and Maharashtra should be secured."
The Mumbai Police have made significant progress in the investigation, arresting seven additional suspects from Haryana, which brings the total number of individuals apprehended to ten, including two women. These suspects are set to be transferred to Mumbai for further legal proceedings. Earlier in the day, the Anti-Extortion Cell presented three accused individuals in the Esplanade Court, who were brought from Kota, Rajasthan, and were granted police custody until October 31.
Looking ahead, the ongoing investigation into the shooting incident will likely prompt further discussions about security protocols for public figures in Maharashtra. Babbar's comments may influence public sentiment and pressure the government to implement more robust safety measures to protect its citizens and celebrities alike.
