Pune Experiences Light Rainfall as IMD Issues Yellow Alert
Early morning showers hit Pune, with forecasts predicting more rain and a yellow alert for several districts.
Pune recorded light rainfall with NDA observing 3mm.
IMD forecasts more rain in Western Maharashtra, including Kolhapur and Satara.
Yellow alert issued due to changing weather patterns attributed to low-pressure systems.
Pune and its surrounding regions experienced light showers early Sunday morning, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting additional rainfall in the coming days. The rainfall recorded during the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 AM on November 1 showed that NDA received the highest precipitation at 3mm, followed by Shirur with 2mm and Ambegaon at 1.5mm. Other localities, such as Bhor and Malin, reported 0.5mm each, while Pashan recorded 0.4mm.
The weather across Western Maharashtra has been inconsistent, with isolated rain reported in districts including Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, and Solapur. The IMD has issued a forecast indicating light to moderate rain, along with potential thunderstorms and gusty winds, particularly in Kolhapur and Satara, as well as parts of the Konkan region. A senior official from the IMD confirmed that a yellow alert is in effect for these districts.
The IMD attributes the fluctuating weather conditions to prevailing atmospheric systems in the area. A well-defined low-pressure zone persists over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjacent southwest Bay of Bengal, which is drawing moisture into the southern and western peninsular regions of India. This phenomenon has led to localized cloud formation and intermittent rainfall across various parts of Maharashtra.
The implications of this weather pattern are significant for the local populace, as the forecasted rain could impact daily activities and agricultural practices. Residents are advised to remain cautious and prepared for potential weather changes, especially in the districts under yellow alert.
Looking ahead, the IMD will continue to monitor the situation closely, providing updates as necessary. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about weather forecasts and heed any advisories issued by local authorities as the rainy season progresses.
