The Pune unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has initiated legal proceedings against Kiran Shamrao Jadhav, a retired deputy director from the Maharashtra agriculture department, and his wife, Sangeeta Jadhav, for allegedly possessing disproportionate assets. The inquiry revealed that Jadhav's assets were 128.7% greater than what could be justified by his known sources of income.

The investigation, which began following an order from the ACB's director general on December 2, 2025, uncovered that between June 4, 1994, and December 2, 2025, Jadhav accumulated assets valued at ₹4.37 crore (approximately $530,000). This significant discrepancy raised red flags, prompting further scrutiny into his financial dealings.

Jadhav, who is currently associated with the Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) in Solapur, previously held positions in the vigilance squad and as a technical officer in the fertilizer quality control department. His retirement from service was recorded on July 31, 2026. The inquiry also implicated his wife, suggesting that she played a role in facilitating the acquisition of these assets through corrupt practices.

The ACB has formally registered a case against the Jadhavs at the Bundgarden police station, citing violations under sections 13(1)(e) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, as well as section 49 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Additional Superintendent of Police Ajit Patil oversaw the inquiry, while the case will be investigated by Additional Superintendent of Police Arjun Bhosale under the supervision of Pune ACB Superintendent Shirish Sardeshpande.

As the investigation unfolds, it is expected to shed light on the broader implications of corruption within public service sectors in Maharashtra. The ACB's actions signal a commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring accountability among government officials, which could lead to more stringent measures against similar cases in the future.
