Sooraj PK, an information officer with the Keralam tourism department, shared these insights during a media briefing in Pune, where the tourism department is actively promoting the state through various campaigns.
The trend of Maharashtra tourists visiting Keralam has continued into 2026, with a reported increase of 10.98% in domestic arrivals during the first quarter compared to the same period in the previous year. This growth reflects Keralam's ongoing efforts to attract visitors and enhance their travel experiences.
Sooraj PK highlighted Kochi as a particularly popular destination among Maharashtra tourists, attributing its appeal to strong flight connections. The itinerary that includes Kochi, Munnar, Thekkady, and Alappuzha is especially favored, offering a mix of hill stations, wildlife experiences, spice plantations, and scenic backwaters.
Additionally, Keralam is witnessing a surge in surfing tourism, with Varkala, Kovalam, and Beypore emerging as key hotspots. The introduction of 'Aventura,' the first government-sponsored surfing school at Gotheeswaram Beach, aims to train enthusiasts with internationally certified instructors, focusing on essential surfing skills and safety.
Looking ahead, Keralam's tourism department plans to continue its promotional efforts to attract more visitors from Maharashtra and beyond. With the increasing popularity of diverse tourism experiences, including adventure sports like surfing, Keralam is poised to enhance its reputation as a premier travel destination in India.
