The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially commenced the application process for the UGC NET December 2026. Candidates interested in applying can submit their registration forms until October 28, 2026, without incurring any late fees. This examination is crucial as it assesses eligibility for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professorship, and admission into PhD programs.
The UGC NET exam will be conducted in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format, covering a total of 87 subjects. During the application process, candidates are required to select four preferred cities for their examination. The NTA has assured that it will strive to accommodate these preferences; however, it has also cautioned that due to logistical or administrative constraints, candidates may be assigned to different locations.
The NTA's decision regarding the final allocation of exam cities and centres will be conclusive. For candidates from Maharashtra, the agency has released a detailed list of examination cities, which includes major locations such as Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and Nashik, among others. A total of 25 cities have been designated as exam centres, ensuring widespread access for candidates across the state.
In instances where the number of candidates from a particular city is minimal, the NTA retains the authority to combine multiple cities into a single examination centre. This measure is intended to optimize resources and ensure that all candidates have a viable location to take their exams.
As the registration deadline approaches, candidates are encouraged to complete their applications promptly. The UGC NET is a significant step for many aspiring academics, and timely registration will ensure they secure their preferred examination locations.
