The ruling MahaYuti coalition in Maharashtra has confirmed its seat-sharing formula of 3:1:1 for the upcoming biennial elections to the state legislative council. BJP state president Ravindra Chavan announced that the party will field candidates for two seats in Pune and one in Nagpur, setting the stage for a competitive election.

The elections are set to take place on October 23, with the counting of votes scheduled for October 27. The BJP will focus on the Pune graduate and teacher constituencies, along with the Nagpur teacher constituency. In contrast, the NCP has been allocated the Sambhaji Nagar graduate constituency, while the Shiv Sena will contest the Amarawati teacher constituency. This allocation follows a dispute where both the NCP and Shiv Sena expressed interest in the Pune graduate seat, which the BJP ultimately claimed.

Chavan indicated that the BJP has shortlisted five candidates for each of the three contested seats, which have been forwarded to the party's Central Parliamentary Board for final approval. He emphasized that the BJP has provided a diverse range of options to the central panel, aiming to strengthen their chances in the elections.

Meanwhile, the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition convened to discuss their own seat-sharing strategy but failed to reach an agreement among its members. The Congress party has expressed interest in contesting the Amarawati teacher constituency, the Nagpur graduate constituency, and the Pune teacher constituency. In addition, the Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP) are expected to contest one seat each, highlighting the fragmented nature of the opposition.

As the elections approach, the political landscape in Maharashtra is becoming increasingly dynamic, with various parties positioning themselves for a competitive race. The outcome of these elections could significantly impact the balance of power in the state, making the upcoming voting a crucial event for all involved parties.
