State CET Cell confirms only colleges with government resolution can participate.

The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has announced that two new medical colleges in the state are not yet part of the NEET UG admission process for 2026 due to pending government approvals. These institutions, Mauli Medical College Hospital and Research Center and Ideal Institute of Medical Science, are listed in the National Medical Commission's (NMC) MBBS seat matrix for the upcoming academic year but require affiliation from the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) before they can participate.

Officials from the CET Cell clarified that participation in the admission process is contingent upon receiving both a Government Resolution (GR) and university affiliation. In a recent communication, the CET Cell indicated that the colleges would be allowed to join the admission process once they secure the necessary permissions. However, it remains unclear whether this will happen in the current admission cycle or the following academic year.

The delay in affiliation stems from queries raised by MUHS regarding faculty qualifications during their inspection of the new colleges. As these institutions await the necessary approvals, they stand to contribute an additional 150 MBBS seats to Maharashtra's overall admission pool if they are permitted to participate. The NMC's updated seat matrix, as of September 1, 2026, allocates 100 seats to Mauli Medical College and 50 to Ideal Institute.

The situation has drawn attention from stakeholders, including Abdur Rehman Khan, president of the Mission Awareness Foundation, who sought clarification from the CET Cell regarding the colleges' absence from the CAP 2026 despite their NMC approval. The CET Cell reiterated that only colleges with the requisite GR and university affiliation are eligible for admission consideration.

As the state-level NEET UG stray vacancy round is currently underway, the potential inclusion of these new colleges could significantly impact the availability of medical seats in Maharashtra. The CET Cell's next steps will be crucial in determining whether these institutions can join the admission process in the near future.
