The shooting incident involving actor Tiger Shroff has sparked fierce criticism of the Maharashtra government from opposition leaders.
Tiger Shroff's vehicle was shot at in Mumbai, injuring two.
Opposition leaders claim the incident reflects a breakdown of law and order in Maharashtra.
Authorities have arrested suspects linked to the attack, which is believed to involve organized crime.
In a shocking incident on Sunday evening, actor Tiger Shroff's vehicle was targeted by unidentified gunmen in Juhu, Mumbai, resulting in injuries to two individuals, including Shroff's driver. The attack occurred as the actor was departing from a local football ground, raising serious concerns about public safety in the city.
The incident has prompted a strong backlash from opposition parties in Maharashtra, who accuse the ruling coalition of fostering an environment of lawlessness, referred to as 'jungle raj.' Congress state chief Harshwardhan Sapkal criticized Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, stating that if a high-profile figure like Shroff can be attacked in broad daylight, the safety of ordinary citizens is also at risk. He has called for Fadnavis to resign, citing a failure in governance.
Following the attack, police arrested two adults and detained a minor in Kota, Rajasthan, after a first information report was filed. An audio clip surfaced online where an alleged member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the shooting, indicating a possible connection to organized crime. The police have not confirmed the authenticity of this claim but are investigating the matter further.
The implications of this incident extend beyond the immediate violence, as it raises alarms about the deteriorating law and order situation in Maharashtra. Leaders from various opposition parties, including the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party, have expressed their concerns, with some calling for President's rule in the state. They argue that the increasing boldness of criminals poses a significant threat to both residents and potential investors in Maharashtra.
Looking ahead, the Maharashtra government is under pressure to enhance security measures and address the growing concerns regarding public safety. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has condemned the attack and stated that police teams are actively pursuing the suspects. The government is also expected to review security protocols for other celebrities in light of this incident, as fears of further violence loom large.
