The Maharashtra Government Nurses Federation (MGNF) has formally requested an investigation into alleged irregularities in the centralized admission process for the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) examination. In a letter addressed to the state's medical education and public health ministers, MGNF emphasized the need for a fair examination system, warning that protests could ensue if their concerns are not adequately addressed.

In their communication dated October 26, MGNF highlighted serious concerns regarding the evaluation process of GNM examination answer sheets in Solapur. The federation, which has advocated for nursing professionals for over five decades, pointed out that the integrity of the examination is crucial for the future of approximately 10,000 to 15,000 students. They called for an impartial inquiry to determine if answer sheets were improperly handled, if marks were altered, and the involvement of officials in these processes.

Indumati Thorat, the state president of MGNF, insisted on the formation of a high-level independent inquiry committee to investigate the matter thoroughly. She stressed the importance of examining the security protocols surrounding answer sheets, including reviewing CCTV footage and vehicle registrations. Thorat also urged scrutiny of the roles played by custodians and other officials involved in the examination process, asserting that any findings of irregularities should lead to the cancellation of the exams and public accountability.

The federation's general secretary, Vishal Sonar, warned that if their demands are not met, they would initiate a one-hour strike on the morning of October 30, 2026. This potential action underscores the federation's determination to ensure that the examination process is transparent and credible, reflecting their commitment to protecting the interests of nursing students across Maharashtra.

Looking ahead, MGNF is poised to escalate their actions if the government does not respond favorably to their requests. The federation's leadership is prepared to mobilize its members for sustained protests, emphasizing the critical nature of the issues at hand and the need for immediate government intervention to restore trust in the examination system.
