Maharashtra has introduced its first 'Annapurti Grain ATM', inaugurated by Chhagan Bhujbal, the State Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection, in Nashik. This initiative is designed to allow eligible beneficiaries to access food grains at their convenience, particularly outside the standard operating hours of traditional fair-price shops.
The state currently operates around 54,000 fair-price shops, catering to approximately 7 to 7.5 crore beneficiaries under the Public Distribution System (PDS). The introduction of the grain ATM is part of the government's efforts to enhance transparency in food distribution and to rectify procedural errors, ensuring that all eligible individuals receive their entitled rations without hassle.
Minister Bhujbal emphasized the significance of the grain ATM for those who struggle to collect their rations during regular hours due to work or other commitments. This innovative solution aims to alleviate the challenges faced by many beneficiaries, making the process more accessible and user-friendly.
The first grain ATM has been successfully launched in Nashik, with plans to establish two additional units in Nagpur and Thane. This expansion reflects the government's commitment to improving food security and accessibility for all citizens in Maharashtra.
Looking ahead, the state government is focused on monitoring the effectiveness of the grain ATM initiative and gathering feedback from users to refine the service. The upcoming installations in Nagpur and Thane are expected to further enhance the reach and impact of this program, ensuring that more beneficiaries can conveniently access essential food grains.
