During the 21st Annual Summit & Awards of the ASSOCHAM National Council for Banking and Financial Sector Lending Companies held in Mumbai, Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma highlighted the necessity for financial inclusion to transcend traditional banking services. He underscored the importance of making credit, insurance, and pension services accessible, particularly to rural households, women, and small business owners.

Varma articulated that financial institutions must leverage technology to broaden access to financial services, ensuring that banking is not just about loans but also about fostering partnerships that contribute to national development. He called for a financial system that is innovative, stable, and inclusive, with a focus on directing credit to productive sectors of the economy.

The summit, themed "Resilience, Reinvention and India’s Rise," gathered policymakers and industry leaders to deliberate on the future of financial inclusion and the role of digital transformation in banking. He stressed that cybersecurity, transparency, and robust governance are vital for building trust in financial services.

Manish Jain, co-chairman of the ASSOCHAM National Council for Banking, raised concerns about the ₹30 trillion credit gap faced by MSMEs. He urged banks to enhance their lending capabilities to support emerging industries and improve credit access for small businesses. The summit concluded with the release of the ASSOCHAM-EY Knowledge Report, which addressed the current priorities and opportunities within the banking and financial services sector, reinforcing the need for collaboration among government, regulators, and industry stakeholders to strengthen India's financial ecosystem.
