Maharashtra FDA Seizes 74,600 kg of Edible Oil Ahead of Festivities
In a significant enforcement action, the Maharashtra FDA confiscated over 74,600 kg of edible oil valued at Rs 1.29 crore during inspections across five districts.

On October 9, 2026, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) executed a series of inspections across five districts, resulting in the seizure of more than 74,600 kg of edible oil, valued at approximately Rs 1.29 crore. This operation was initiated under the guidance of FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, aimed at ensuring compliance with food safety standards ahead of the festive season.
The inspections targeted various establishments in Pune, Sangli, Solapur, Satara, and Kolhapur, where officials sought to identify and prevent the sale of substandard and unsafe edible oils. The FDA reported numerous violations, including inadequate laboratory facilities, improper labeling, and unhygienic packaging practices. Pune district emerged as the highest contributor to the seizures, with 34,481 kg of oil confiscated from eight locations.
Among the notable seizures, 12,518 kg of soyabean and RBD palmolein oil were taken from Sant Tukaram Oil Mill in Dehu, where officials discovered a non-functional laboratory and issues of misbranding. Additionally, Laxmi Enterprises in Aale, Junnar, had 12,434 kg seized. Inspections also occurred in Baramati MIDC, Chakan, Mulshi, and Gultekadi Market Yard, revealing further violations.
In Kolhapur, the FDA confiscated 18,156 kg of edible oil worth around Rs 29.03 lakh from four businesses. Significant seizures included 7,998 kg of RBD palmolein oil at Raj Oil in Ichalkaranji, where unsafe storage practices were noted. Solapur district inspections led to the seizure of 13,490 kg of oil, with findings of mislabeling and substandard products. In Satara, 5,948 kg of oil was seized, with businesses operating without valid licenses.
The FDA has emphasized the importance of consumer vigilance during the festive season, encouraging the public to report any suspected adulteration or quality concerns. As investigations continue, further legal actions, including penalties and prosecutions, may be pursued based on the findings from these inspections.
