Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated three new flyovers in Mumbai, aiming to significantly reduce travel time across the city to just 50 to 60 minutes. The projects are part of a broader initiative to improve east-west connectivity and alleviate traffic congestion at major junctions. The inauguration took place amid expectations that these infrastructure enhancements will greatly facilitate movement within the bustling metropolis.
The Sion railway overbridge, a critical component of this initiative, has been reconstructed after the demolition of a 112-year-old structure deemed unsafe in 2019. This new bridge will support the planned addition of the fifth and sixth railway lines between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Kurla, which is expected to enhance both suburban and long-distance train services. Originally set for completion in February 2027, the project was finished four months ahead of schedule, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
The newly constructed Vidyavihar bridge connects Ramchandra Chemburkar Marg in the east with Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg in the west, aiming to cut travel time between these two areas from approximately 30 minutes to just 10 minutes. CM Fadnavis emphasized that this bridge will also alleviate congestion on the Ghatkopar railway overbridge, further improving the flow of traffic in the region.
The third flyover, measuring 1.26 kilometers, is located near the Hotel Ratnagiri junction in Goregaon East and is part of the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road project. This flyover connects General Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg with Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari Road, enhancing accessibility for residents and commuters in the area. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, along with other state ministers and the Mumbai Mayor, Ritu Tawde.
Looking ahead, the successful completion of these projects is expected to have a lasting impact on Mumbai's transportation landscape. With improved infrastructure, the city anticipates not only reduced travel times but also enhanced quality of life for its residents. Future developments will likely focus on further expanding the urban transport network to meet the growing demands of the city's population.
