Maharashtra CET 2027: Two Attempts Scheduled After Class 12 Exams
The Maharashtra government has announced that both attempts of the MHT-CET 2027 will take place after the Class 12 board examinations.
MHT-CET 2027 will have two attempts, both after Class 12 exams.
The first attempt was moved from December 2026 to avoid conflicts with board exams.
Students can use their highest score from the two attempts for admissions.
The Maharashtra government has confirmed that the Maharashtra Health and Technical Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) 2027 will consist of two attempts, both scheduled after the Class 12 board examinations. This decision addresses concerns raised by students, parents, and admission counselors regarding the initial plan to hold the first attempt in December 2026, which was deemed too close to the board exams.
The exact dates for the MHT-CET have yet to be announced, but officials indicate that both attempts are likely to occur between March and May 2027, with a minimum four-week interval between them. This structure allows students to select their best score from the two attempts for the purpose of admission into engineering and pharmacy courses across the state.
An official from the CET Cell noted that the department had received numerous requests for a schedule change, as students expressed concerns about balancing preparation for the entrance exam with their board exams. The Maharashtra State Board's Class 12 examinations are set for February 2027, prompting the decision to conduct the MHT-CET attempts afterward.
The two-attempt system was first introduced in November 2025 to align the MHT-CET with national entrance exams like the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), providing students with an additional opportunity to enhance their scores. For the 2025-26 academic year, both attempts were conducted in April and May due to the late introduction of this system.
In planning for the 2027 schedule, the state sought input from various stakeholders, including students from districts such as Nandurbar, Dharashiv, and Chandrapur. Students highlighted that Class 12 practical exams commence in January, and they felt that having the first CET attempt just before these practicals would limit their preparation time. In response to these concerns, the state has opted to hold both attempts after the completion of the board examinations.
