On October 22, 2026, a Jodhpur-Hyderabad train was halted for over two hours at Hingoli railway station in Maharashtra due to passenger protests. The demonstration was sparked by allegations that Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel assaulted a young traveler and misbehaved with female passengers during an incident aboard the Bhagat Ki Kothi-Kacheguda Express.
The situation unfolded in the early hours of Thursday after the train had crossed Washim, approximately 40 kilometers from Hingoli. Passengers, who were returning from a Dussehra event in Nagpur, reported that a teenager from their group mistakenly entered a reserved coach. According to the protesters, the RPF intervened aggressively, leading to claims of assault against both the youth and women who attempted to assist him.
As the train reached Hingoli, frustrated passengers disembarked and staged a sit-in on the tracks, demanding accountability from railway authorities. This protest resulted in a significant delay, with the train unable to proceed for more than two hours. Local police arrived at the scene to mediate, promising to investigate the allegations, which led to the eventual dispersal of the protesters and the resumption of the train's journey.
In response to the allegations, RPF inspector S P Paswan refuted the claims, stating that the personnel were addressing issues related to ticketless passengers who were reportedly filming inside the crowded coach. He noted that the teenager became distressed when asked to delete the recordings, prompting an RPF constable to seek medical assistance for him.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident to ascertain the facts surrounding the altercation. The outcome of this inquiry could have implications for the conduct of RPF personnel and the safety of passengers on trains in the region.
