The attack occurred around 4:30 PM when a confrontation erupted between Shelke's team and the pump owner's family, escalating into violence that resulted in Shelke being stabbed multiple times.
This incident has drawn parallels to the 2005 murder of S Manjunath, another IOC officer who was killed while investigating irregularities at a petrol pump in Uttar Pradesh. The IOC has expressed its deep sorrow over Shelke's death, describing him as a dedicated professional whose commitment earned him respect among colleagues. The company has reached out to authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident.
According to police reports, the exact cause of the dispute remains unclear, but it escalated quickly, leading to Shelke's tragic death. Authorities have formed a special team to apprehend the main suspect involved in the attack. The IOC has emphasized the need for safety and security for its personnel, who work diligently to serve the public.
Minister Hardeep Singh Puri took to social media to express his condolences and condemned the act of violence, stating that such attacks on public sector officers are unacceptable. He assured that the Ministry of Petroleum and IndianOil would provide full support to Shelke's family during this difficult time and called for immediate action against those responsible for the attack.
The IndianOil Officers' Association has voiced its outrage over the incident, demanding a swift and impartial investigation. They emphasized the necessity of ensuring the safety of all officers in the energy sector, advocating for zero tolerance towards violence against those performing their duties.
