Indian Oil Manager Fatally Stabbed During Petrol Pump Sealing in Hingoli

In a tragic incident in Hingoli, Maharashtra, Mahesh Shelke, a sales manager for Indian Oil, was fatally stabbed seven times during an altercation over the sealing of a petrol pump. The attack took place on Tuesday evening when Shelke and his team arrived to seal the facility, which had been non-operational for three months due to technical problems. The petrol pump operator's family requested additional time to resume operations, leading to a heated dispute.
The confrontation escalated when Umesh Pandavveer, the son of the petrol pump operator, attacked Shelke with a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds to his abdomen, back, and face. Despite immediate medical attention, Shelke succumbed to his injuries at the scene. CCTV footage captured the assailant and his accomplices fleeing the scene in two vehicles. A murder case has been registered at the Kurunda police station, and authorities are actively searching for the suspects.
Indian Oil's chairman, Arvinder Singh Sahney, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Shelke, emphasizing that he was attacked while performing his official duties. He condemned the act of violence and called for stringent action against those responsible. Sahney also extended condolences to Shelke's family and colleagues, highlighting the need for justice in this tragic situation.
Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also condemned the incident as a shocking act of violence. He expressed his condolences to Shelke's family and assured them of support from the ministry and Indian Oil. Puri stated that the matter has been escalated to senior officials in the Maharashtra government and police to ensure a swift and strict response to the crime, underlining the importance of safety for personnel in the energy sector.
As investigations continue, the incident has raised concerns about the safety of employees in the energy sector, particularly those involved in operational duties. The Indian Oil management is committed to supporting Shelke's family during this difficult time and is advocating for enhanced security measures to protect its workforce in the future.
