The investment is part of a larger $15.5 billion strategy for India by 2032.
Hyundai Motor India has announced plans to invest an additional ₹4,000 crore in its Pune manufacturing facility by the year 2030. This investment aims to nearly double the plant's production capacity from 170,000 to 320,000 units annually. The announcement was made by Tarun Garg, CEO and Managing Director of Hyundai Motor India, during a recent launch event attended by state officials, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The Pune facility has already seen an investment of ₹7,000 crore, which underscores Hyundai's commitment to the region. The latest investment comes in the wake of Hyundai Motor Group's broader strategy to invest $15.5 billion in India by 2032, positioning the country as a key market for future growth. Garg emphasized that this ₹4,000 crore investment is a direct contribution to Maharashtra's economy and reflects Hyundai's long-term vision for the Indian market.
In addition to the direct investment from Hyundai, its vendors have contributed ₹4,600 crore to the state's economy. Garg highlighted that Maharashtra plays a crucial role in Hyundai's operations, with plans to increase localization from 83% to 92%, enhancing the supply chain and manufacturing efficiency. This move is expected to provide a significant boost to Hyundai's production capabilities in India.
Hyundai's investment strategy is multifaceted, focusing not only on expanding capacity but also on introducing new models. The company plans to launch 26 new vehicle models to reclaim market share, as it has slipped to the fourth position in vehicle sales after previously holding second place. Additionally, Hyundai is committed to the electric vehicle (EV) market, with plans to introduce four EV models by 2029 and invest in charging infrastructure.
Looking ahead, Hyundai aims to increase its exports, having already achieved a milestone of 4 million vehicles exported from India. The company is also focusing on hybrid vehicles, with a target of making 50% of its portfolio sustainable by 2030. As Hyundai continues to expand its footprint in India, the upcoming investments and strategic initiatives are set to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the automotive industry in the region.
