Gujarat Man Jumps 1,700 Feet After Matrimonial Dispute

On October 12, a tragic incident unfolded at Harishchandragad in Maharashtra, where 30-year-old Vishwaraj Gohil from Bhavnagar, Gujarat, reportedly committed suicide by leaping from the Konkankada cliff. This distressing act followed a tumultuous period marked by domestic disputes, as Gohil left behind a 13-minute video alleging harassment and calling for legal reforms regarding matrimonial issues.
Gohil, who resided in Chitra, Bhavnagar, and worked at the Timba post office, expressed in his video that he was suffering from severe mental anguish due to a domestic violence case initiated by his wife, Dhaaraba Sarvaiya. The couple had been married since February 8, 2026. Gohil's video highlighted his plea for authorities to scrutinize the misuse of laws related to marital disputes, indicating a deep sense of despair.
The situation came to light when passersby discovered Gohil's motorcycle and mobile phone abandoned near the cliff. Alerted by this discovery, the Rajur police in Ahilyanagar district contacted Gohil's family using the mobile device. They were informed about the video, which suggested that he had jumped into the gorge. Given the steep drop of nearly 1,700 feet, police utilized CCTV footage to locate his body, which was recovered after a challenging 24-hour operation involving mountaineers.
The case has been registered under the jurisdiction of the Tokawade police station in Thane rural, where an Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been filed. Assistant Police Inspector Shitalkumar Naik stated that further investigations will be conducted, including recording statements from family members and reviewing the video footage left by Gohil. The police aim to clarify the circumstances that led to this tragic event, focusing on the allegations made against his in-laws and the ongoing inquiry into the domestic violence complaint filed by his wife.
