On October 2, 2026, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated a 22,500-square-foot Experience Centre in Dharavi, showcasing the ambitious redevelopment plans for the area. This event coincided with Gandhi Jayanti, marking a significant step towards transforming one of Asia's largest slums into a modern urban district. The centre provides residents with a firsthand look at proposed housing, commercial spaces, and public infrastructure improvements.
The Experience Centre features life-size models of rehabilitation homes and renewal apartments, allowing visitors to explore furnished and unfurnished layouts of the proposed 350-square-foot and 500-square-foot units. The centre also includes a 3D walkthrough of the planned township, designed to give residents a clear vision of their future living environment. This initiative is part of a larger redevelopment project led by Adani Navbharat Developers, which aims to retain the close link between homes and livelihoods in Dharavi.
Fadnavis also unveiled a new anthem dedicated to the community, which emphasizes hope and a brighter future for Dharavi's residents. The anthem, featuring lyrics by Prasoon Joshi and composed by Shankar Mahadevan, aims to inspire the local population as they look forward to the changes ahead. The Adani Group shared glimpses of this vision on social media, reinforcing their commitment to the redevelopment effort.
The redevelopment plan encompasses various aspects, including new housing, upgraded commercial facilities, schools, healthcare services, and improved transport infrastructure. A proposed Multimodal Transport Hub is set to enhance connectivity for residents, while plans for the rejuvenation of the Mithi River and the creation of a public riverfront aim to enrich the community's environment. The Experience Centre will also provide digital services to assist residents with information on eligibility and documentation related to the redevelopment process.
As the project progresses, the Experience Centre serves as a vital resource for residents to understand the upcoming changes to their housing and public amenities. The initiative not only aims to uplift the living conditions in Dharavi but also seeks to celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit of its residents, integrating their businesses into the future development of the area.
