In a significant move to assist drought-affected farmers in Maharashtra, the Central Government's inter-ministerial team has mandated local officials to expedite crop-cutting experiments. This directive aims to ensure that farmers receive their compensation before the upcoming Diwali festival.

Muktanand Agrawal, who leads the central team, conveyed these instructions during a meeting held at the Beed District Collector’s office. He highlighted the importance of a thorough evaluation of the drought's impact, which includes assessing crop damage, rainfall patterns, availability of drinking water, groundwater levels, fodder for livestock, and employment opportunities for affected communities.

The drought has severely impacted approximately 8.25 lakh farmers across 1,353 villages in the Beed district. The central team conducted a review of the current crop conditions, the extent of water scarcity, the availability of fodder, and the distribution of assistance to the farmers in the region. This assessment is crucial for understanding the full scope of the drought's effects on agriculture and rural livelihoods.

Additionally, the team extended its inspection to drought-affected areas in Yavatmal district, where they evaluated crop damage and the critical issues of drinking water scarcity and groundwater levels. They also looked into the prospects for the upcoming Rabi season in Solapur district, emphasizing the need for timely interventions to support farmers.

Looking ahead, the central team is expected to continue its efforts to monitor the situation closely and ensure that relief measures are implemented effectively. With Diwali approaching, the urgency to provide financial assistance to farmers has become paramount, as many depend on this support to recover from the ongoing drought crisis.
