The Canadian Education Council (CEC) has officially launched its International Employment License (IEL) program in Maharashtra, marking a significant step towards improving job readiness among students. This initiative, which is set to expand across India, is supported by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between CEC and the Maharashtra government.

The IEL program introduces a modern approach to job applications by providing a verified digital profile that showcases a candidate’s English proficiency, technical skills, personality traits, and career alignment. This innovative system allows employers to assess a graduate's capabilities beyond what is typically presented in a traditional résumé. Additionally, it offers universities a standardized framework to better prepare students for the workforce.

Ms. Sunita Krishnan, the Regional Director of CEC, emphasized the importance of this program, stating that many graduates struggle to demonstrate their skills to potential employers. She noted, "The IEL changes that. A student gets trained, assessed, and licensed, making their strengths visible to employers from day one." Mr. Prakash V Page, Principal Advisor to the program and a key figure in the Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Ltd (MKCL), is also instrumental in guiding the rollout.

The CEC collaborates with various educational institutions to address the disconnect between education and employment. With partnerships extending to employers in over 25 countries, the IEL program provides licensed students with access to a global job market. Participants can choose from training in more than 20 fields, including pharmacy, engineering, IT, business, and skilled trades, catering to both remote and on-site job opportunities.

Having already successfully placed students in countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, and Egypt, the CEC is now focusing on Indian graduates and postgraduates. The initiative promises to enhance employability and provide students with the tools they need to succeed in a competitive job market.
