AstraZeneca's registered office is moving from Karnataka to Maharashtra.
The new corporate office in Mumbai spans 25,600 sq ft and will accommodate nearly 300 employees.
The shift aims to strengthen partnerships within the healthcare ecosystem and improve access to innovative treatments.
AstraZeneca Pharma India has confirmed its decision to relocate its registered office from Karnataka to Maharashtra, a move that underscores the company's strategic growth initiatives. The announcement follows the recent inauguration of its new corporate office in Mumbai by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, marking a significant milestone for the multinational drugmaker.
This relocation aligns with AstraZeneca's commitment to expanding its presence in India. In May, the company informed stock exchanges that shareholders had approved the transition of the registered office. The move is seen as a pivotal step in enhancing access to innovation and fostering deeper collaborations within the healthcare sector. A spokesperson for the company emphasized that being closer to key healthcare institutions and partners will enable AstraZeneca to better address the pressing healthcare challenges faced by the country.
The new corporate office, which covers an area of 25,600 square feet, will house approximately 300 employees across various departments including medical affairs, strategy, marketing, and human resources. While the corporate office is relocating, AstraZeneca's commercial sales organization will continue to operate nationwide, with Bengaluru remaining a crucial hub for the company’s global operations.
AstraZeneca's strategic shift comes after the company surrendered its manufacturing license for its Bengaluru facility last September, two years prior to its expiration. This decision was part of a broader review of its global manufacturing and supply chain strategy. The spokesperson noted that the company has successfully transitioned its manufacturing activities while ensuring a steady supply of medicines to patients.
Looking ahead, AstraZeneca aims to leverage its Mumbai presence to strengthen partnerships in oncology, biopharmaceuticals, and rare diseases. The company, which has introduced over 25 new medicines in India in the past three years, is also conducting around 80 global clinical trials in the country. This relocation is expected to bolster AstraZeneca's investment in talent and capabilities, positioning India as a key player in the organization’s global operations.
