In a brazen act of theft, a group of women stole gold jewellery valued at approximately Rs 7 lakh from an employee of a jewellery shop in Nagpur on October 3. The incident took place while the worker was en route to deliver the items to a craftsman, highlighting the audacity of the thieves involved.
Sanket Khanorkar, the owner of the jewellery business situated on Umred Road, instructed his employee Kisan Rokde to transport the gold ornaments to a craftsman residing near Tanga Stand. Rokde carried the jewellery in a purse and initially took an e-rickshaw from Dighori to Sakkardara, before transferring to another e-rickshaw heading towards Tanga Stand.
Upon reaching Tanga Stand, Rokde approached the craftsman only to discover that the jewellery was missing from his purse. This alarming realization prompted him to file a complaint at the Tehsil police station, leading to the registration of a theft case against unidentified individuals. The police are currently investigating how the jewellery was stolen during the journey.
The incident raises concerns about safety and security for workers in the jewellery industry, particularly those tasked with transporting valuable items. The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, especially in areas frequented by e-rickshaws.
Authorities are actively pursuing leads to identify the suspects involved in this theft. They are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and have called for witnesses to come forward with any information that could assist in the investigation.
