The construction of a 300-bed super-speciality hospital in Wathoda, Nagpur, is progressing towards its final stages, with significant portions of the project already completed. This ₹187.7 crore initiative, overseen by the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), is currently focusing on finishing touches to the building, while the next phase will involve the installation of medical facilities, according to officials.
Originally slated for completion by March 14, 2026, following a work order issued on March 15, 2024, the project has surpassed its initial timeline without a revised completion date announced by NIT. As per the latest project status report, structural work has reached the seventh floor, with the hospital designed as a ground-plus-nine-storey building. Ongoing activities include granite flooring, electrification, plumbing, and other essential finishing tasks.
Upon its completion, the hospital is set to feature multiple specialized departments such as urology, nephrology, dialysis, pathology, bronchoscopy, physiotherapy, orthopaedics, paediatrics, gastroenterology, dentistry, radiology, and general surgery. Additionally, plans for a dedicated cancer care unit are in place, enhancing the facility's capabilities.
This project is anticipated to significantly benefit the residents of Wathoda and surrounding areas like Dighori, Kharbi, and Nandanvan, who have long awaited advanced healthcare services closer to home. Once operational, the hospital aims to provide comprehensive medical treatment under one roof, alleviating the need for patients to travel to government hospitals located in other parts of Nagpur. The initiative is being executed under the leadership of NIT chairperson Sanjay Meena.
While construction has advanced notably, the next steps include completing the remaining building works, equipping the hospital with necessary medical devices, and establishing essential infrastructure. The management of the hospital post-completion remains to be determined, leaving residents eager for updates on its operational future.
