A divorce settlement meeting in Nagpur turned violent on Monday evening, leading to two men suffering serious injuries from knife wounds. The incident unfolded near the Collector’s Office in the Sadar police station area, where tensions escalated dramatically during discussions about finalizing divorce papers.
The altercation began when Mayur Bhagat, aged 40, allegedly attacked 60-year-old Ravindra Lohkare with a knife, striking him on the head. This violent act prompted Ravindra's relative, Rangnath Lohkare, aged 44, to intervene, only to be stabbed in the stomach by Bhagat. Witnesses reported that other individuals involved in the meeting joined in the assault, further injuring both victims with physical blows.
Both men, who are residents of Karanji village in Yavatmal district's Pandharkawada tehsil, were quickly transported to a medical facility for urgent treatment. The severity of their injuries has raised concerns about the potential long-term impacts on their health.
In response to the incident, the Sadar police have initiated legal action against Mayur Bhagat, his wife, younger brother, and several other relatives. As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to take further steps to ensure the safety of individuals involved in similar situations in the future.
