A recent investigation reveals connections between the Wanadongri jewellery robbery and two suspects from the Andaman Islands.
Two residents from Port Blair, Mustakim Munir Ahmed and N Mohammed Sufyan N Sulaiman, arrested in connection with the heist.
The robbery occurred on October 3, resulting in the theft of gold ornaments valued at Rs 40 lakh.
A detailed investigation uncovered links between the suspects and a gang previously incarcerated together.
In a significant breakthrough in the Wanadongri jewellery heist, police have arrested two individuals from Port Blair, Andaman Islands. Mustakim Munir Ahmed, aged 34, and N Mohammed Sufyan N Sulaiman were apprehended following a 24-hour operation by the crime branch. This operation is part of the ongoing investigation into the robbery that took place on October 3, when four armed men stormed a jewellery shop in the MIDC police jurisdiction, threatened an employee, and escaped with gold ornaments worth Rs 40 lakh.
The investigation began with the collection of crucial evidence, including fingerprint analysis and CCTV footage, which initially led to the arrest of four suspects, one of whom was identified as Rajan Sharma, a Nagpur resident with ties to Uttar Pradesh. As the investigation progressed, it was revealed that Mustakim, a lawyer, had previously met Sharma and his accomplices while they were incarcerated in Chennai Central Jail. He played a pivotal role in securing their bail, which ultimately facilitated the planning of the Wanadongri heist.
On the day of the robbery, Rajan Sharma contacted Mustakim, luring him to Hingna with the promise of Rs 12 lakh to cover bail expenses incurred in Chennai. Following the successful execution of the heist, it is believed that Mustakim may have accompanied the gang as they fled the scene. The police are now delving deeper into the interstate conspiracy that was orchestrated while the suspects were behind bars, examining the involvement of the Andaman-based individuals.
The implications of this case extend beyond the immediate theft, as it highlights the intricate networks of crime that can span across states. The involvement of individuals from the Andaman Islands raises questions about the reach and organization of criminal activities in India. Local authorities are keen to dismantle such networks to prevent future incidents and ensure public safety.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement agencies are expected to explore further leads and connections that may arise from the ongoing inquiries. The police are particularly focused on uncovering any additional accomplices and understanding the full extent of the conspiracy that led to the Wanadongri jewellery heist.
