Jeevan Zarekar, a 12-year-old student, died by suicide at his school hostel.
CCTV footage revealed he was distressed prior to the incident.
The family alleges negligence by school authorities in handling the situation.
A heartbreaking incident unfolded at Sanmitra Sainik School in Visapur, near Chandrapur, where a 12-year-old student, Jeevan Zarekar, tragically ended his life on the school premises. The event occurred around 6 PM on Thursday, with reports indicating that Jeevan had developed a skin condition earlier that day. Despite the gravity of the situation, no suicide note was found at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding Jeevan's death have raised serious questions about the school's management. Initially, the school did not inform Jeevan's father, Vilas, about the suicide, instead stating that his son's condition had worsened. This lack of communication led to allegations of negligence from the family, who were left seeking clarity on the events that transpired.
Further investigation by the Ramnagar police revealed crucial details through CCTV footage obtained from the school. Inspector Prabhavati Ekure stated that the footage showed Jeevan visibly upset and crying shortly before he took the tragic step. On the day of the incident, the school had advised his father to take Jeevan home for a few days for treatment, but after a brief visit to a local doctor, he returned to school, where he reportedly became distressed at the thought of staying.
Witnesses indicated that Jeevan was seen crying for several minutes while other students played nearby. In a tragic turn of events, he used a nylon cord from his hostel to hang himself. The family expressed their shock and concern over the school's handling of the situation, particularly since Jeevan appeared to be in good spirits when his father left him at school earlier that day.
Following an autopsy, Jeevan's body was returned to his family on Friday. The police continue to investigate the circumstances of his death, examining all available evidence to understand the events leading up to this tragic incident. The case has sparked a broader conversation about mental health support and the responsibilities of educational institutions in safeguarding their students.
