In a heartbreaking incident in Nagpur, 13-year-old Pulkit Devgade, a Class 8 student and volleyball enthusiast, tragically ended his life at his residence in Bhende Layout, Swavalambi Nagar. The event occurred around 7:30 PM on Monday, drawing attention to the severe emotional strain that can arise from ongoing family conflicts, separation of parents, and financial hardships.
The tragic discovery was made by Pulkit's mother, who returned home from her job at a private showroom to find the house locked from the inside. After failing to get a response from her son, she enlisted the help of neighbors, who forced the door open. Pulkit was found hanging from a ceiling fan, and despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Pulkit's mother informed the Sonegaon police that her son was not only academically gifted but also showed great promise in sports. However, the ongoing marital issues between his parents had taken a toll on his mental health. The couple's prolonged legal disputes had created a distressing atmosphere for the young boy, who was deeply affected by the situation.
Financial instability compounded the family's troubles, as Pulkit's father, employed in the MIDC area, was reportedly inconsistent in providing maintenance support. This left his mother, aged 40, struggling to cover household expenses and her son's educational needs. The emotional neglect from his father, who rarely engaged with Pulkit, further exacerbated the boy's feelings of isolation and despair, leading him to confide his worries to his mother.
The Sonegaon Police have registered a case of accidental death based on the mother's detailed account. Investigators are now delving into the family's domestic situation, financial difficulties, and ongoing court proceedings to uncover the factors that may have led to this tragic decision by the young athlete.
