Tiger Attack Claims Life of 60-Year-Old Woman in Tadoba
A tragic incident in Chandrapur highlights the dangers of human-wildlife conflict as a woman is killed by a tiger while farming.

In a tragic incident on Monday afternoon, a 60-year-old woman named Mandabai Suryabhan Mangam was killed by a tiger while working on her farm adjacent to a reserve forest in the Moharli forest range of the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve. The attack occurred around 2:30 PM in compartment No 187, where she was engaged in agricultural activities.
This incident adds to the alarming statistics in Chandrapur district, which has reported a total of 32 fatalities due to wildlife attacks this year, with the majority being tiger-related. In 2025, the district recorded 47 deaths linked to wildlife, underscoring the ongoing conflict between humans and wildlife in the region.
Following the attack, forest officials, led by Moharli range forest officer Santosh Thipe, along with police from Durgapur police station, promptly arrived at the scene. A police inquest was conducted, and the body was sent to the district hospital in Chandrapur for an autopsy. The Forest Department has also provided compensation of ₹50,000 to the victim's husband, Suryabhan Laxman Mangam.
In response to the rising incidents of wildlife attacks, forest officials have installed camera traps in the area to identify the tiger responsible for this attack. Additionally, they have initiated an awareness campaign to educate local villagers about the risks of working near forest edges, urging them to exercise caution.
Looking ahead, the Forest Department's proactive measures aim to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts and enhance safety for residents living near forested areas. Continuous monitoring and community engagement will be crucial in addressing this pressing issue and preventing further tragedies.
