SWITCH Mobility and PURPLE BUS launch electric buses in Vidarbha.
The service was inaugurated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
This marks SWITCH's third intercity deployment in 2026.
On October 20, 2026, SWITCH Mobility Ltd, a manufacturer of electric buses and part of the Hinduja Group, in collaboration with PURPLE BUS, launched a new electric bus service on the Nagpur-Chandrapur route. This initiative aims to expand intercity connectivity in the Vidarbha region, enhancing mobility options for residents and travelers alike.
The launch event featured the flag-off of the first batch of six electric buses, part of a larger order of 50 EiV12m intercity electric buses designated for deployment in Vidarbha. The ceremony was attended by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, highlighting the government's support for sustainable transportation solutions.
This new service represents SWITCH Mobility's third intercity deployment in 2026, following previous launches on the Mumbai-Pune and Dombivli-Pune routes earlier this year. These routes are among the busiest in India, underscoring the growing demand for efficient and eco-friendly transportation options in urban and suburban areas.
Ganesh Mani, the CEO of SWITCH Mobility, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion into Vidarbha, emphasizing the company's commitment to sustainable mobility solutions. He stated that this initiative would support the daily commuting needs of the local population while contributing to the region's economic growth.
Looking ahead, the introduction of electric buses in Vidarbha is expected to set a precedent for further developments in electric public transport across Maharashtra. As the demand for sustainable transportation continues to rise, SWITCH Mobility and PURPLE BUS are poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of intercity travel in the region.
