The election campaign for the Nagpur Division Graduates’ Constituency is reaching its final stages, with BJP candidate Sudhakar Kohale gaining traction among voters. The party has intensified its outreach efforts, mobilizing its organizational machinery throughout Nagpur city. On Sunday, party workers engaged in door-to-door campaigns to connect with voters and solidify support for Kohale.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken a hands-on approach in the campaign, conducting meetings with party officials to strategize and enhance their outreach. His involvement has also included mediating disputes within the party, notably with former MLC Anil Sole, to strengthen their position ahead of the elections. The BJP's Maha Jansampark Abhiyan initiative has seen party representatives covering all 171 polling booths in the city, aiming to convert positive public sentiment into votes for Kohale.
Support for Kohale is not limited to the BJP's base; several leaders who were part of the Congress during the 2020 elections have now pledged their allegiance to him. The Krantikari Shikshak Sanghatana, Maharashtra, has officially endorsed Kohale, with key figures from the organization publicly expressing their support in a letter, which adds to his growing momentum in the election.
In contrast, Congress candidate Abhijit Wanjari, who previously won the Nagpur Graduates’ Constituency election, is encountering significant challenges this time. Political tensions within the Congress party have surfaced, particularly highlighted by a recent meeting involving Kohale and party functionaries at Priyadarshini College of Engineering. This meeting has led to speculation regarding the internal dynamics of the Congress party, especially as former minister Nitin Raut has distanced himself from Wanjari.
As the election approaches, the coming days will be critical for both Kohale and Wanjari. The BJP aims to consolidate its support across the six districts of the Nagpur Division, while Wanjari must navigate the internal conflicts within Congress to maintain his political standing. The outcome of this election will significantly impact the political landscape in the region.
