In a significant development for India's defense capabilities, Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL) has delivered its cutting-edge Nagastra-2 loitering munition system to the Indian Army. This delivery occurred on Friday, following successful user trials conducted under challenging electronic warfare conditions, ensuring the system's operational readiness.

The Nagastra-2 is equipped with advanced electronic counter-countermeasures (ECCM) designed for use in contested battlefields. It boasts features such as anti-jamming, anti-spoofing, and multi-mode communication, which are critical for modern military operations. The system's onboard vision-based tracking and autonomous guidance enable it to engage both stationary and moving targets, even in environments where GPS signals are unavailable.

One of the standout features of the Nagastra-2 is its indigenously developed tandem anti-tank warhead, capable of defeating explosive reactive armor (ERA) and penetrating up to 650 mm of rolled homogeneous armor (RHA). With an operational range exceeding 25 kilometers, it is equipped with a dual-sensor electro-optical payload that functions effectively both day and night, allowing for the detection, tracking, and engagement of various targets, including armored vehicles.

The successful completion of technical trials at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in August was a key milestone for the Nagastra-2. A board of officers from the Indian Army observed the demonstration, which confirmed the system's compliance with all operational requirements and ECCM performance parameters, validating its readiness for deployment.

This delivery is particularly noteworthy as it follows the recent provision of 450 Nagastra-1R short-range kamikaze drones to the Indian Army, underscoring SDAL's commitment to enhancing India's indigenous defense capabilities. While the company has not disclosed the specific number of Nagastra-2 units delivered or the contract value, the introduction of this advanced loitering munition system marks a significant step forward in modernizing the Indian Army's arsenal.
