During the annual Vijayadashami rally held in Nagpur, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat urged attendees to sing 'Vande Mataram' in its entirety, emphasizing its role as a symbol of national unity. He stated that there should be no hesitation or objections to expressing pride in the national song, which he believes serves as a powerful reminder of collective identity.
Bhagwat provided historical context, recalling the British attempt to partition Bengal, which aimed to create divisions between Hindus and Muslims. He noted that the society's strong opposition to this move ultimately led to the British government retracting its proposal. 'Vande Mataram' emerged during this time as a rallying cry for unity and patriotism, reinforcing the idea that the nation can overcome divisive forces.
In his address, Bhagwat criticized the mindset of appeasement that he claims has contributed to societal divisions, leading to the Partition of India in 1947. He argued that the promise of peace and autonomy offered by this divisive strategy never materialized, resulting in ongoing unrest and distrust within the country. He called for a renewed commitment to the values of Bharat as a motherland and the shared heritage of its people.
The RSS chief also highlighted the recent heroism of Captain Smit Machchhar, who saved lives during a mid-air attack on a flight. Bhagwat pointed out that Machchhar's actions exemplify the inclusive worldview and values of Hindu society, which he believes are essential for fostering emotional unity and goodwill among all citizens. He reiterated the RSS's mission to awaken the Hindu spirit and cultivate a strong, organized community.
Looking ahead, Bhagwat's remarks signal a call to action for individuals to embrace their cultural heritage and work towards a cohesive society. He stressed that the values passed down through generations are crucial for inspiring future acts of bravery and unity, urging all to contribute to a harmonious national identity.
