Rs 1,226 Crore Textile Park Planned in Nagpur
A new textile park aimed at boosting trade and employment is set to be developed in Nagpur, covering over 15,500 square meters.
The proposed textile park will cost approximately Rs 1,226 crore.
It is expected to create 8,000 to 10,000 jobs in the region.
Mixed reactions from local traders highlight concerns about customer accessibility.
A significant development is underway in Nagpur with the proposal of a textile park on a 15,503.60 square meter site on Subhash Road, estimated to cost around Rs 1,226 crore. This multi-storey complex, strategically located opposite Geeta Mandir, aims to serve as a hub for textile trade, manufacturing, warehousing, and related commercial activities.
The planned complex will feature a carpet area of approximately 7.898 lakh square feet, housing 672 units that include shops, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and offices. The project is projected to create direct employment opportunities for between 8,000 and 10,000 workers, significantly impacting the local economy. To enhance accessibility within the building, it will be equipped with 34 lifts, four escalators, and six staircases, along with a food court and event space capable of accommodating 6,000 to 7,000 people.
This initiative is particularly noteworthy given Nagpur's historical ties to the textile industry. It aims to consolidate various textile-related commercial and manufacturing activities under one roof, potentially revitalizing the sector in the region. The Nagpur Housing and Area Development Board anticipates that the project could generate an estimated profit of around Rs 175 crore.
Local traders have expressed mixed feelings about the development. While some appreciate the central location and the concentration of textile businesses, others are concerned about the size of the proposed units. There are apprehensions regarding customer preferences, as many shoppers in Nagpur have traditionally favored ground-level commercial spaces over multi-storey complexes. The closure of several malls in the city has raised further doubts about the viability of such shopping destinations.
The actual success of the textile park will largely depend on customer footfall and the ability of the complex to attract both traders and shoppers once it opens. Stakeholders are keenly observing how this ambitious project unfolds, as it could reshape the textile landscape in Nagpur and beyond.
