In a significant rescue operation, a single mother from Madhya Pradesh was saved from a life of prostitution in Nagpur on Saturday. The crime branch conducted a raid in Ashirwad Nagar, leading to the arrest of 37-year-old Lalita alias Puja Yadav, who is accused of running an extensive trafficking network.

The rescued woman had moved to Nagpur approximately six weeks ago, seeking better opportunities to support her eight-month-old daughter. According to police reports, she was allegedly enticed into the flesh trade by Yadav, who promised her quick financial gains. This incident underscores the vulnerabilities faced by single mothers in desperate situations.

During the investigation, authorities discovered numerous photographs of women on Yadav's mobile phone. It is alleged that she circulated these images to potential clients and arranged meetings at various locations. This method of operation raises concerns about the scale of the trafficking activities in the region.

The operation was initiated following a tip-off, with a crime branch team led by Senior Police Inspector Darshan Patil and Head Constable Prakash Mathankar. They set up a decoy customer to lure Yadav before executing the raid between 3 PM and 6 PM. Police recovered Rs 1,500 in cash and a mobile phone valued at Rs 10,000 during the operation.

The rescued woman and the accused were subsequently handed over to the MIDC police for further action. The police are now focused on identifying the women featured in the photographs and assessing the full extent of the trafficking network. This incident highlights the urgent need for continued efforts to combat human trafficking and support vulnerable individuals in society.
