In response to recent incidents involving violence against medical staff, including an attack at Colors Hospital and an extortion attempt at Hope Hospital, the Nagpur police have launched a Police-Medical Connect Directory. This directory encompasses 86 hospitals across six police station jurisdictions, aiming to bolster the safety of healthcare professionals and streamline communication with law enforcement.

The initiative was spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner of Police Annapurna Singh, who convened a meeting on Saturday with representatives from various hospitals, senior doctors, and members of the Indian Medical Association. The discussions focused on enhancing the safety of doctors and improving coordination between hospitals and police forces. The directory provides essential information, including the names and addresses of hospitals, contact details for doctors and administrative officers, and the relevant police personnel assigned to each facility.

Each hospital listed in the directory is associated with police stations in Sitabuldi, Sadar, Gittikhadan, Ambazari, Dhantoli, and Mankapur. Additionally, the directory identifies the nearest QR code point for each hospital, allowing beat marshals to regularly scan these codes and engage with hospital security staff. DCP Singh emphasized that this system will facilitate direct communication between hospitals and police officers, enabling them to respond promptly to emergencies by dialing 112.

The directory is designed to ensure that hospitals are aware of the police officers available to assist them. In critical situations where doctors must concentrate on patient care, hospital administrative officers can preemptively notify police officers, potentially averting law and order issues. DCP Singh indicated that more hospital administrative officers will be included in the communication group to enhance this process.

This initiative comes on the heels of a recent incident where a group extorted money from a doctor following a patient's death at Hope Hospital. An FIR was filed shortly after the police meeting, resulting in the suspension of a senior police inspector due to delays in addressing the situation. The Police-Medical Connect Directory represents a proactive step towards ensuring the safety of healthcare workers in Nagpur and fostering a collaborative environment between medical and law enforcement professionals.
