In a significant move to ensure public safety, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has issued a notice to a telecom company regarding a hazardous underground chamber. This notice, dated October 19, highlights the urgent need for repairs to a damaged chamber located along West High Court Road near Deo Nagar Chowk, which has been a source of concern for local residents.
The issue came to light when NMC officials communicated with the telecom company on October 10, informing them about the broken chamber. Despite this notification, no remedial action was taken, prompting the NMC to escalate the matter. The chamber in question features broken concrete covers and an exposed edge, creating a dangerous situation for both pedestrians and motorists who frequent the area.
Assistant Commissioner Dhananjay Jadhav stated that the NMC had received numerous complaints from citizens regarding the hazardous condition of the chamber. A junior engineer from the Laxmi Nagar Zone had previously contacted the telecom company's representatives, who assured that repairs would be initiated. However, the lack of follow-through led to the issuance of the formal notice.
The NMC's notice serves as a stern warning to the telecom operator, indicating that any accidents resulting from the damaged chamber could lead to serious consequences, including legal action. Jadhav emphasized that if the company fails to address the issue promptly, the NMC will undertake the repairs themselves, recover the costs, and impose penalties on the operator.
Looking ahead, the NMC is prepared to take further action if the telecom company does not comply with the notice. The civic body aims to prioritize public safety and ensure that such hazards are addressed swiftly to prevent any potential accidents in the future.
