Union Minister Nitin Gadkari participated in the Nagpur Division Graduates’ Constituency election for 2026, casting his vote at New English High School. Following his vote, Gadkari expressed strong confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prospects, urging eligible voters to actively engage in the electoral process. He emphasized the constituency's personal significance, noting it as the starting point of his political journey.
During his remarks, Gadkari highlighted the importance of this constituency as a representation of educated graduates' opinions. He stated, "This constituency especially reflects the opinion of educated graduates. Therefore, a victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party in this election signifies the support of educated and cultured voters for the party." His comments underscore the BJP's historical connection with the constituency, which has consistently supported the party and its predecessor, the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.
Gadkari also made a passionate appeal for voter turnout, emphasizing that voting is not only a right but also a civic duty. He stated, "In a democracy, the right to vote is a fundamental right granted to every voter. Exercising this right is the duty of every citizen who believes in democracy." His call to action aims to encourage participation among voters who may be hesitant to engage in the electoral process.
The election process is part of the biennial elections for Legislative Council seats across various Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies in states including Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh. In Maharashtra, voting is taking place in three Graduates’ constituencies and two Teachers’ constituencies, with the main competition being between the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and the Mahayuti alliance.
As the election unfolds, the counting of votes is set for October 27, with the final results anticipated by October 31. This timeline is crucial for both the candidates and the parties involved, as they prepare for the implications of the election outcomes on their political strategies moving forward.
