In a surprising turn of events in Nagpur, independent candidate Nitesh Karale has claimed that his substantial vote count was instrumental in securing victory for the Congress party in the graduates' constituency. Karale, who garnered over 25,000 votes, made these assertions on Thursday, suggesting that both Congress and the BJP underestimated his potential impact during the election.
Karale expressed his belief that his vote share should prompt Congress to acknowledge his contribution to their success. He remarked, "Getting 25,000 votes is no small thing," emphasizing that the parties had anticipated he would only attract around 7,000 to 8,000 votes. He contended that the Congress's win was not solely their achievement but rather a result of his efforts, urging Wanjarri to recognize his role in the electoral outcome.
Discussing his campaign strategy, Karale explained that he encouraged voters to prioritize him as their first choice while allowing them the freedom to select their second preference. He criticized the BJP for not soliciting second preference votes, suggesting that this misstep contributed to their failure in the elections. Karale firmly rejected any notions that his candidacy was part of a broader strategy involving Wanjarri, asserting that his participation was about asserting his presence in the political arena.
Karale also highlighted the nature of his campaign, stating that he did not engage in monetary inducements or lavish gatherings, which he believes sends a strong message to political parties about the importance of grassroots support. He challenged Wanjarri to compete against him independently, asserting that if he could secure such a significant number of votes, he would emerge victorious in a direct contest.
Looking ahead, Karale announced his intention to run against Pankaj Bhoyar in the upcoming assembly elections and expressed his plans to participate in zilla parishad and panchayat samiti elections in the Vidarbha region. His statements reflect a determination to continue influencing the political landscape in Nagpur and beyond.
