In response to the ongoing drought affecting numerous regions, Nagpur University has established a dedicated task force aimed at assisting students from these impacted areas. This initiative is designed to address the educational challenges that students may encounter as a result of the drought, ensuring they can continue their studies without undue hardship.

The newly formed task force will work closely with local colleges to facilitate the distribution of benefits announced by the state government for eligible students. Anup Palsokar, the Director of the Board of Examinations and Evaluation, will lead this task force, supported by Vijay Tangade, the Director of the Student Development Department, and Sopanadev Pise, the NSS Director. Motiram Tadas, the Deputy Registrar of the Examinations and Evaluation department, will act as the coordinator for the task force.

Registrar Vijay Khandal has urged colleges in drought-affected talukas to cooperate fully with the university's task force. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that eligible students receive the necessary concessions as outlined by the state. This initiative follows directives from Chandrakant Patil, the Minister of Higher and Technical Education, who called for the establishment of such task forces at the university level to support students facing difficulties due to drought.

According to a letter from the higher and technical education department dated September 30, 2026, college principals in drought-affected areas have been instructed not to charge examination fees from students who qualify for concessions. These students are required to submit their applications, which must be authenticated with the appropriate government resolution certificate, to the university for processing.

The state government has declared drought-like conditions in 265 talukas across 34 districts, primarily due to insufficient rainfall linked to the El Nino phenomenon. In light of these circumstances, the higher and technical education department is actively implementing various measures to provide relief and support to students in the affected regions, ensuring they can continue their educational pursuits despite the challenges posed by the drought.
