Nagpur to Experience 24-Hour Water Cut Affecting 323 Localities on October 13
A major water supply disruption is set to impact numerous neighborhoods in Nagpur due to ongoing pipeline repairs.
323 localities in Nagpur will face a 24-hour water cut starting October 13.
The disruption is due to repairs on a major pipeline supplying water to the area.
Residents are advised to store water in advance and can seek assistance via the NMC-OCW helpline.
In Nagpur, residents of 323 localities will experience a significant water supply disruption for 24 hours, beginning at 6 am on October 13 and lasting until 6 am on October 14. This announcement comes shortly after a previous pipeline repair led to a water outage exceeding 60 hours for many areas. The ongoing work is focused on fixing a leak in a 1,400mm-diameter pipeline that is crucial for water supply through the Pench-4 feeder near Mankapur Square.
The upcoming water cut follows a previous disruption that began on October 6 and extended beyond its scheduled completion on October 7. The repairs, managed by the state public works department’s World Bank Division, were not completed on time, causing significant inconvenience to residents. Complaints regarding low water pressure and quality issues arose once the supply resumed, highlighting concerns about the Nagpur Municipal Corporation's (NMC) oversight of the repair process and its communication with the public.
Residents in affected areas, including Nara, Nari, Jaripatka, and several others, are urged to prepare by storing adequate water before the cut. The NMC has provided a helpline number, 1800 266 9899, and the Nagpur Jal Grahak Sewa app for assistance during this period. The water supply to various tapping points, including Chandrabhaga and Sambhaji Nagar, will also be impacted, further complicating the situation for residents.
The list of affected command areas includes a total of 17 localities in Nara, 19 in Nari, and 37 in Jaripatka, among others. Each command area will see varying numbers of localities affected, which underscores the extensive reach of this water cut. The civic administration is preparing for this interruption to ensure that necessary repairs can be completed efficiently.
Looking ahead, residents are advised to monitor updates from the NMC regarding the status of repairs and any further disruptions. As the city grapples with these ongoing issues, the administration's response will be critical in restoring reliable water supply and addressing community concerns about service quality.
