Nagpur Teen Arrested for Rape After Failed Abortion Attempt

In a shocking incident in Nagpur, Maharashtra, an 18-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly raping his 16-year-old schoolmate, who subsequently became pregnant. The case has drawn significant attention due to the disturbing details surrounding the alleged attempts to terminate the pregnancy using herbal concoctions based on YouTube tutorials.

According to police reports, the two teenagers were friends at school and became physically involved last year when the boy's family was away. The relationship reportedly continued under the pretext of marriage, leading to the girl's pregnancy. Instead of seeking medical assistance, the accused allegedly turned to online resources to find ways to induce an abortion, preparing a herbal mixture that he believed would help.

For several weeks, the girl was reportedly forced to consume the herbal concoction and other abortion pills. Unfortunately, the attempts to terminate the pregnancy were unsuccessful, and she eventually went into labor at home. Following complications during childbirth, her family rushed her to a government hospital, where medical staff alerted authorities due to her deteriorating health.

The police recorded the girl's statement and subsequently charged the boy with rape, leading to his arrest. The case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Authorities are also verifying the boy's age at the time of the alleged offense, as he was a minor during their initial physical relationship.

In light of the circumstances, the police have assured that the survivor will receive necessary counseling and psychological support. The case is set to be transferred to the Child Welfare Committee for further proceedings, emphasizing the need for sensitive handling of such cases involving minors.
