In Nagpur's Trisharan Nagar, residents faced a severe water crisis as potable water flowed onto the streets for two consecutive days due to a pipeline leakage. The situation drew attention only after a local automobile mechanic noticed the water spilling onto the road, prompting him to document the wastage and alert the authorities.
Initially, residents believed the water supply disruption was due to planned cuts, overlooking the continuous flow of water. The mechanic discovered the leak on Friday morning and recorded a video to emphasize the issue. He reported that the leakage began when the Orange City Water (OCW) team activated the main water valve, revealing the damaged pipeline.
The mechanic escalated the matter to local corporator Nidhi Telgote, who confirmed that the pipeline had been compromised during the installation of a sewage trunk line, likely caused by an excavator. Although the damaged section was repaired initially, the leak reappeared on Friday night, complicating immediate repair efforts due to the timing.
Telgote explained that the second leak occurred at an inconvenient hour, which delayed the deployment of a repair team. However, the pipeline was promptly repaired the following morning, with additional work done to cover the repaired section with mud. In response to the incident, Telgote has lodged an official complaint against the contractor involved in the project.
This incident highlights ongoing infrastructure challenges in Nagpur, particularly concerning water supply management. The local community is now calling for improved oversight and accountability to prevent similar occurrences in the future. As the city grapples with water supply issues, residents hope for swift action to ensure reliable access to potable water moving forward.
