Nagpur Railway Station has officially launched its underground parking facility, which can accommodate up to 1,890 vehicles, including 1,600 two-wheelers and 290 cars. The facility was handed over to Central Railway by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) on Saturday, marking a significant step towards improving commuter experience at the station. This development is expected to ease congestion at the west entrance, where private vehicles and autorickshaws often compete for limited space.

The underground parking project is part of a larger ₹487.77-crore redevelopment initiative that began in July 2020, following the laying of the foundation stone by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 2022. The project aims to modernize the station's infrastructure and enhance passenger amenities. Senior divisional commercial manager of Central Railway’s Nagpur division, Aman Mittal, indicated that the facility would be operational within two to three days, following final preparations.

Key features of the new parking facility include designated parking bays, ramps, lifts for easy access, and digital signage to guide motorists. Additionally, plans are in place for a prepaid autorickshaw stand and organized vehicle lanes around the facility, which will further streamline transport arrangements for passengers. Railway sources have emphasized the importance of addressing water leakage issues before the official opening, ensuring that all safety requirements are met.

The broader redevelopment plan encompasses improvements in passenger circulation, upgraded amenities, and better integration with other transport systems. The project is expected to significantly enhance the overall environment for commuters, making it more spacious and orderly. As part of the security enhancements, a joint patrolling post for the Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police is also planned, which will operate around the clock to deter unauthorized loitering and other criminal activities.

Looking ahead, railway authorities are committed to expediting the redevelopment process, with a target completion date set for March 2027. However, sources suggest that efforts will be made to accelerate the timeline, ensuring that the new facilities are made available to the public as soon as possible. The introduction of the underground parking facility is a crucial step in achieving a more organized and efficient transportation hub at Nagpur Railway Station.
