The Nagpur Railway Station has recently undergone redevelopment, showcasing a vibrant display of tricolor lights at its main entrance. However, the adjacent Tekdi Road, which serves as a crucial access point for thousands of passengers, remains shrouded in darkness due to non-operational streetlights. Residents and commuters have reported that the lighting issues have persisted for the last three to four months, raising concerns about safety and accessibility.

While the station's main building is illuminated in pink and orange hues, the heritage streetlights along the road leading to the entrance are mostly off, with only a few functioning at the far end. This situation forces arriving passengers, often laden with luggage, to navigate a dark and hazardous roadway, risking their safety as they dodge speeding vehicles. Additionally, one of the decorative heritage poles is precariously tilted, further endangering pedestrians.

The streetlights in question were installed by MahaMetro during the road widening project, with the understanding that they would be transferred to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) for maintenance. Although MahaMetro asserts that the handover has been completed, NMC has yet to officially take over the responsibility, leading to confusion and inaction. Attempts to reach officials from both MahaMetro and NMC's Electrical Department for comments have gone unanswered.

This ongoing issue highlights a significant failure in infrastructure management for a city that prides itself on being the Second Capital of Maharashtra. The inability of these two agencies to coordinate effectively has left a vital access route in a perilous state, impacting not only the safety of passengers but also the overall image of the city.

Looking ahead, it remains unclear when the streetlights will be repaired or when NMC will officially assume responsibility for their maintenance. Local residents and commuters are urging both agencies to resolve their differences promptly to ensure the safety and well-being of all who use Tekdi Road.
